Be on time
(we aim to start playing at 1935 at the latest!)- if late please cause the
minimum amount of disruption by waiting until the band has finished the current
piece of music
Keep
chatter to a minimum during practice
Turn off
mobile phones or switch to silent mode
Put chairs
away quickly and efficiently after practice
Do not be
afraid to ask conductor if you have a request or need help with some parts
of the music
Respect
the conductor’s wishes/ guidance and decisions
Welcome
new members
Sign music
out, if you are unable to attend the next practice, make sure you arrange
for the music to be returned (e.g., give to a colleague)
Look after
the music when you take it home
Do invite
other musicians to the band- especially those who play instruments we are
short of – however we ask that you or the potential new member consult the
chairperson first.
New
members will be on 1 month ‘trial’ after which they will have an informal
interview with the conductor to establish their position in the band.
Pay subs on
time to Phil (the drummer).
Any
suggestions, comments or complaints can posted in the suggestion box
(anonymous if you like!).
Concerts
Turn up in
plenty of time (at least half an hour before)
Always
inform us if you cannot attend a concert as soon as possible
Be dressed
smartly and act professionally during a concert
Musicianship
Practice
at home regularly – don’t just learn the notes (although it’s a start!) –
also work on your tone quality, dynamics and tuning.
Practice
passages you have found difficult at band practice
Help each
other – offer the person next to you advice if they are struggling with
something, likewise accept advice (this wouldn’t constitute as chatter if
discrete!).
If someone
plays something well offer praise!!!
Persevere
with new or difficult pieces – take them home and practice – ACCEPT A CHALLENGE!!!
